Where’s the respect?
Good morning friends……
I am writing to you in the wee hours of the morning.
I hope everyone is doing well .
I am heading back to work soon , as I have been anxiously awaiting to return to some kind of pattern. I’m also excited to be able to return to my hair salon soon, so I can look in the mirror and see the true me and not’ Cousin It’ from Adams family lol
I had a challenging situation today, on one of my shopping outings and I was affected on many levels so, I thought I would share my feelings to you.
I feel so many people are forgetting their P’s & Q’s. Especially around our older adults.
Now I know how difficult it is, when working in the public and so many different personalities enter the store and several older adults who can’t move around the store as quickly as they used to; or disabled people .
What disappointed me lately , is that everyone is forgetting how difficult it must be for our older adults and the disabled to get through, during this Pandemic .(never mind when there is no Pandemic)
If you think for a moment how difficult , and challenging these times have been for us, then how do you think , those individuals feel, who are not able to move as quickly or maybe they are struggling with the most simple things we take for granted like ,just getting our cash or credit cards out to pay or making sure they don’t forget their bags or their purses or wallets.
One day friends, we will all be older and wiser(hopefully) and maybe not as swift as we are now. We may also need a little extra care to do the most basic things.
We need to take the time and patience to give our older adults a chance. After all , we wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them .Think about your own older adult parent or someone who is disabled and is unable to perform the simplest basic everyday tasks that we take for granted.
What happened to me and why I was so disappointed was, I witnessed an older adult in a store. I was lining up to pay for my products and the employee was literally impatient and disrespectful for not understanding the directions she was trying to convey to the older adult customer.
I looked at the customer behind me and we both agreed this was inappropriate behavior
I must confess ,I am an individual who loathes when people don’t use their P’s & Q’s But what really hurts me is when I see especially disrespect for our older adults and disabled individuals.
I really cannot comprehend or validate this disrespect .
With so many new rules and regulations being enforced ….why can’t there be a rule that we all take time and patience to allow those older adults who have worked their entire lives and paved the way for our freedoms and privileges so they can receive the respect they deserve and what happened to allowing disabled individuals to go to the front of the line or the older adults.
I am starting to sound like the late great comedian: Rodney Dangerfield “NO RESPECT” but friends come on !!!!
Let’s try next time, to be more patient with everyone and I get that its so stressful working in the front lines in the public ..I know cause I work in retail directly to the public and I know how challenging it can be(especially during this Pandemic) but if we wake up every morning and try to intend one’ act of kindness’ all of a sudden it doesn’t seem as challenging as before.
By the way… it takes less energy to be patient with one another then to lose our cool.
The next time you see an older adult or disabled individual be courteous , respectful and patient.
Remember we are all in this Pandemic together .
Kindness goes a long way friends.
((((HUGS))))
